Welcome to our website!
Heal the Hearts was created to promote understanding and education of Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), for parents and professionals dealing with children diagnosed with RAD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, ADD/ADHD and/or Bi-Polar Disorder.
The exposure to stress with some children has been so significant that they stand outside of any category of severity. These children give trauma a new definition. Most children are or have been in foster care, have had repeated life threatening experiences, and have had several changes in caregivers. All of them have suffered from some form of emotional, sexual, or physical abuse; and generally they have never been successfully treated. The most popular diagnosis for these children is Reactive Attachment Disorder; however, most have received every diagnosis available for severe emotional and behavioral disturbances ranging from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder to Bi-polar, Depression, or Asperger's Syndrome. In addition, most have received various combinations of psychotropic medication.
Hello, my name is Terri and I would like to share a little about my story. After fostering several children and adopting one child who was diagnosed with Depression, Bi-polar and Reactive Attachment Disorder; I needed to find resources to help me parent in a different way, as the traditional way was not working for us. I needed answers. Through my search to help my family heal, I found several resources and I wanted to share them with everyone else. This is how Heal the Hearts began. As our family healed, I began sharing with others what is working for us and thus began my parent coaching. I am a very determined mom and I don’t give up. I had to struggle and fight my way though the hoops of adoption assistance and the educational process to obtain what was necessary for my family. My kids are now 23, 20, 13 and 1 year old. I hope to better empower and equip you by giving you the tools you need to succeed as a parent or a professional, so that you can help your family or your clients.

I am now in school, pursuing my dream to have my own clinical practice. I have a BS in Psychology and I am working towards being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, which requires me to obtain my MSW (masters in social work). I currently lead a support group and I am starting an 8-week intensive parent-training group this winter (2006/2007). Heal the Hearts is now a non-profit foundation with a board of directors. We have joined with Connecting Families, a mental health referral agency, which provides assessments and referrals for parent coaching or therapy, based on whichever would be most beneficial to your family's needs.
Please look through our website and if you have any questions feel free to contact us. If you would like me to speak at your agency, please call or email me and I would be glad to discuss this with you.
